Your Insurance and Payment Questions Answered

  • Insurance plans vary, but most fall into two common structures:

    • Copay plans: You pay a set fee per session (for example, $10–$80).

    • Deductible plans: Your sessions apply toward your deductible first.

If your plan has a deductible, you are responsible for 100% of the contracted rate for therapy sessions until your deductible is met.

  • Once you complete your intake and add your insurance in the portal, we will:

    1. Verify your benefits

    2. Request an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) summary from your insurance company

This gives us an estimate of your expected cost per session.

We will reach out to you to provide the estimate we receive.

  • Yes—we strongly encourage it.

Your insurance company can give you the most detailed and up-to-date information about:

    • Your deductible

    • Copays or coinsurance

    • Out-of-pocket maximum

You can call the Member Services number on the back of your insurance card.

  • You can ask:

    • Does my plan have a deductible for outpatient mental health?

    • What is my remaining deductible?

    • What is my cost per session (copay or coinsurance)?

    • Does my plan cover CPT code 90837 (60-minute therapy)?

    • Do I need prior authorization?

  • Yes! You can use HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards to pay for therapy services.

  • We charge an estimated patient responsibility at the time of each appointment based on the information provided by your insurance company.

  • Once your insurance processes the claim, they send an Explanation of Payment (EOP) outlining your exact responsibility.

    At that point, we will:

    • Adjust your balance if needed

    • Charge or refund the difference to match the finalized amount from your insurance

  • Charging an estimate helps:

    • Keep balances from building up over time

    • Provide a more consistent and predictable payment process

    • Reduce the likelihood of large, unexpected bills later

  • If your insurance determines a different responsibility than initially estimated, we will adjust your account accordingly. This may result in:

    • A small additional charge, or

    • A credit/refund

  • Yes. If there is any change after your insurance processes the claim, it will be reflected in your account, and you will see the updated charge or credit.

  • If a claim is denied, we will reach out to the insurance company to identify the reason for denial. We will notify you and review next steps. You may be responsible for the session cost depending on the reason for denial.
